Cardiovascular Disease Information

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Risk Factor Programme

In Scotland, CVD is the second largest cause of overall disease burden and the second most common cause of death. Many of these deaths are considered avoidable, meaning they are preventable or treatable through public health interventions or timely and effective healthcare. To address this issue the Scottish Government has launched a new initiative to help identify people living with CVD risk factors and offer early intervention and care. We at St Luke’s are proud to participate in this and hope that we can help to build a healthier Scotland.

Through-out 2025 we will be identifying eligible groups of patients between the age of 35-60 years and requesting they submit a CVD Risk Assessment form – this form includes BP, height, weight, smoking status and family history – they will also be invited to attend the treatment room to have blood tests taken. The resulting information will then be collated and allow us to establish the overall CVD risk factor.

Lifestyle Recommendations to help Reduce Risk

Recommendations to lower your CVD risk would be to follow a health lifestyle.

Any patients who are found to have a low CVD risk will be advised of the same and sent a link to this webpage which contains health and wellbeing resources to empower you to lead a healthier lifestyle.

For patients with a higher CVD risk they will be offered an appointment with our GPs where they will discuss and optimise early intervention to reduce the risk of CVD.

We hope you will work with us and utilise these resources to help reduce your risk of CVD.

Explore your favourite local Lanarkshire walks

NHS Lanarkshire and Get Outdoors Lanarkshire have joined forces with the walking app Go Jauntly to make spending time outdoors a little bit easier. The free, community-based walking app promotes walking for leisure and nature connection and is a fabulous way to discover local walks created by those who know and love them.

The app also highlights the greenest routes for local walking journeys or a place to note the positive things seen in everyday nature, which research shows can help alleviate anxiety.
